BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Federico Sesti is working as Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience and Cell Biology, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, at Rutgers University, United States. He received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of Genova, Italy. He was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics in 2001 and advanced to Associate Professor with tenure in 2007. The research of the Sesti’s laboratory revolves around the molecular basis of neuronal aging in both vertebrates and invertebrates and in particular, how excess oxidants modify K+ channels and how this mechanism - which the lab gas been the first to demonstrate - contributes to the progressive decline in neuronal function which is part of the normal aging process and of neurodegenerative disease.
Dr. Sesti is a Fulbrigh Scholar, and honorary member of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASEP) and member of several scientific societies including the Society for Neurosciences, the Biophysical Society and FASEB. He is also serving as the editorial board member of many international journals.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dr. Sesti is a Fulbrigh’s research interest includes Ion channels, potassium channels, aging, oxidative stress, reactive oxygen species, ROS, Src tyrosine kinases, C. elegans, cell signaling.
