BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Donald E. Stowell is an Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, Section of Cardiothoracic, is a native of Utah, but a long time resident of Oklahoma. Dr. Stowell graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He then trained and practiced anesthesiology for 15 years in Utah and Oregon before returning to Oklahoma where he completed his general surgery residency in 2003. He served on the faculty for four years then subsequently completed a cardiothoracic fellowship. In July, 2009, Dr. Stowell rejoined the Department of Surgery faculty as a cardiothoracic surgeon. He is currently board certified in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. His clinical interests include open heart surgery, especially valve replacement, and treating patients with lung cancer.
He is currently practicing a wide range of cardiovascular and general thoracic surgery, including CABG, Valve Replacement/Repair, Coverage of a Level I Trauma Center and Associated Injuries, Endo Stent treatment of thoracic injuries, aneurysms and abdominal aneurysms. His general thoracic service includes lobectomies, minimally invasive lobectomies, segmental resections, esophageal surgery, etc.
His current research interests are mass spec characterization of esophageal and lung cancer. He is also involved in genetic studies regarding arterial disease in cabg patients. This is being done at a molecular/genetic level to characterize the markers and pathogenesis of atherosclerotic disease.
