BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Howard Prentice currently working as an Associate Professor of Biomedical Science in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. Prior to moving to Florida he held a faculty position in the Department of Genetics at the University of Glasgow, Scotland (1993-2000). He obtained his PhD degree in biochemistry at the University of London in 1987 and carried out his postdoctoral research in California, firstly at Stanford and later at University of Southern California. His primary research emphasis is on age related diseases and mechanisms of neuroprotection. With respect to neuronal function he is currently employing rodent models of stroke to examine the mechanism of action of key neuroprotectants and stem cell mobilizing agents. He is an expert in viral transfection using in vivo models including the oxygen -induced retinopathy model with a focus on regulating cell specific expression and modulating transgene expression through the incorporation of novel promoter sequences.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dr. Howard Prentice's research Interests include Neurodegenerative disease, Stroke, Cardiovascular disease, Myocardial ischemia , Gene therapy, Retinal ischemia, and Ischemic preconditioning.
