BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Michael L. Friedland, M.D. is the interim Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professor of Clinical Biomedical Science, and was the founding Dean of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University. He came to FAU in 2004, as the Senior Associate Dean for Biomedical Programs and Executive Director of Medical Programs. In 2006, Dr. Friedland was named Dean of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Biomedical Science prior to its name change to the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine in the summer of 2010. Dr. Friedland administered the College’s research programs, which are focused on the molecular and cellular bases of human disease, particularly those that afflict the aging population to develop and test novel approaches for treating these diseases.
Among the numerous awards and honors he has received, include the “Excellence in Healthcare Award-Medical Education” and “Heavy Hitters in Healthcare,” both awarded in 2007 from the South Florida Business Journal. Dr. Friedland also received the “Physicians’ Recognition Award” on nine separate occasions from the American Medical Association, most recently in 2001.
He has published numerous articles and book chapters, and served on the editorial board of The Journal of Rural Health. He also served as a reviewer for the Journal of General Internal Medicine, Journal of American Geriatrics Society, and the National Association of Primary Care Research Groups.
